What is #GivingTuesday?
Celebrated on the Tuesday following Thanksgiving (in the U.S.) and the widely recognized shopping events Black Friday and Cyber Monday, #GivingTuesday kicks off the charitable season, when many focus on their holiday and end-of-year giving. In 2015, the event brought together over 45,000 partners in 71 countries and helped raise nearly $117 Million online in the US alone. Since its founding in 2012, #GivingTuesday has inspired giving around the world, resulting in greater donations, volunteer hours, and activities that bring about real change in communities.
The event was created by the team at Belfer Center for Innovation & Social Impact at the 92nd Street Y – a cultural center in New York City that connects diverse groups of individuals, communities and organizations around the world for one common purpose: to celebrate and encourage giving. #GivingTuesday celebrates generosity by providing people everywhere with an opportunity to give more, give smarter, and give great.
The Big Ideas Behind #GivingTuesday
#GivingTuesday harnesses the power of social media and the generosity of people around the world to bring about real change in their communities; it provides a platform for them to encourage the donation of time, resources and talents to address local challenges. It also brings together the collective power of a unique blend of partners— nonprofits, civic organizations, businesses and corporations, as well as families and individuals—to encourage and amplify small acts of kindness.
As a global movement, #GivingTuesday unites countries around the world by sharing our capacity to care for and empower one another.
How is globalVCard Participating in #GivingTuesday?
On Tuesday, November 29, 2016, CSI globalVCard employees are participating in #GivingTuesday by sharing good will through an Angel Tree decorated with stars that represent the “angels” that will receive gifts from CSI employees. “The Angel Tree has been a tradition to the CSI family for about 4 years and each year we’ve supported a different cause,” stated Nikole Hargrave, co-chair of the CSI globalVCard Angel Tree event. “This year we are supporting the Naples Shelter for Abused Women and Children and I couldn’t be more proud to be a part of helping these families experience some joy this Christmas.” In previous years, CSI has supported the Children’s Advocacy Center of Southwest Florida, Salvation Army and local families.
“Participating in #GivingTuesday during the holiday season makes for a more memorable holiday for all of our employees,” said Juliann Pless, chair of CSI globalVCard’s charitable foundation Power2Change. “Charitable giving has been part of the globalVCard culture since day one and will continue to be a top priority throughout the years.”
